Step 5 – Taking Action: The Power of Consistent Action

You’re probably thinking, “Well, I’m just not that good at taking action.” But you’d be surprised what will happen when you learn to take consistent action!

The power of consistent action can’t be underestimated. People who consistently put forth effort often reap greater rewards than those who don’t. The key here is consistency—putting the same effort in every time. In other words, no matter how good your intentions may be, you won’t reap the consistent rewards if you’re not putting forth consistent effort.

The difference between someone who thinks about taking action and someone who takes action is enormous.

Why you need to take consistent action

“There is no better way to increase your chances of success than to do more, do better, and do consistently,” says Richard Branson. “In other words, you need to take consistent action, and that action needs to be aimed at accomplishing the goal you have set yourself.”

An old adage goes something like this: You can’t manage what you don’t measure. It seems so simple and straightforward, but it’s important to understand because it’s so often left out of the equation when we talk about success. This is because most people have a hard time defining what they mean by success, and it’s not clear whether they’re talking about a personal level or a business level. But it doesn’t matter, because whatever success you seek, you will need to measure, track, and record your efforts toward achieving it.

When you should take consistent action

We all need to start taking action, even when it seems like there’s no point in doing anything. Don’t wait for inspiration to strike. Do something now. This quote reminds us that the most successful people don’t wait for opportunities or inspiration. They take consistent action over a long period of time, working toward a goal they’re truly passionate about.

The first thing you need to do to get any new behavior established is to consistently do the behavior. This means you must set aside time for it every day. You’re going to have to practice it often. That’s what consistency does: It makes the behavior so normal that you don’t even think about it anymore. When you consistently do the behavior, it becomes part of who you are. Your actions become habits. This is how all of us make progress toward our goals.

The importance of setting a clear goal and a schedule

Success requires that you stay focused on the goal. If you allow yourself to become distracted or distracted by the wrong things, then you won’t achieve any success. People who are distracted, for example, tend to fail to complete tasks because they don’t stay on track. Instead of being a slave to your own emotions and desires, you must learn to control your mind. Successful people focus on what needs to be done in the next few hours or days. They don’t spend their time worrying about what happened yesterday or what will happen tomorrow.

Why you need to start now

In fact, some people argue that if you don’t start a habit in the first minute, it never happens. If you wait until 30 minutes into your day to take the steps that will help you get to your goal, you’ll never make it. That’s why it’s so important to get started. Start on something small. You don’t have to do it perfectly on the first day. But you do have to take action consistently throughout the day to build momentum and eventually make a habit out of it.

How to get started

Before you start anything, take a deep breath and remember why you’re getting started. What’s your end goal? What’s your why? Your why is what will keep you going. So if you’re starting a business, your why could be a passion project that you want to make a success. Or maybe your why is that you want to make more money than you currently do and that you’re trying to save up to do something bigger and better. Whatever your why, keep it in the back of your mind, so you don’t lose sight of it.

How to break through your inertia

We know how difficult it is to take action, but it’s not something we can ignore. It’s easy to blame external forces such as lack of time, resources, or motivation, but our internal barriers often prevent us from taking action. By using the power of visualization, you can take steps toward accomplishing your goals. If you think about what you want to achieve and then see yourself achieving it, you’ll start to take real, concrete steps toward making that happen.

Consistency is the key to long-term results. So, if you want to accomplish anything in life, you must develop the habit of doing the same thing consistently over and over again. By repeating a consistent action, you will develop good habits. Over time, these habits will become automatic, and you will no longer have to think about them. By repeating an action, you create a strong habit that becomes stronger each time you do it. This is how you can master consistency. If you can’t achieve consistency in your life, you won’t achieve success.
